Sunday July the 11th at Lake Elmwood. With a front coming we stood a good chance to have a fair bite, the wind was out of the southwest 6mph, the water was stained and water temps. ran 80-83 degrees. This lake can produce a 6 fish 25# bag easy and has in past years. Seven teams competed for the daily winnings with payouts for 1st, 2nd and big bass.
1st place Chuck Hays & Dave Courtney with a nice 19.44# bag with two nice kicker fish 5.33# and 5.00#.
Chuck & Dave reported catching several fish while fishing main lake points. At 9:00 am the big fish for the pair came out of 18' of water on a grassy point with a Texas rigged worm. Chuck was using a Johnny Morris rod with a Shimano reel with 14# Stren. Dave was using a Bionix combo with an unknown line. Congratulations!
2nd place Steve Shaul with a nice 16.01# bag limit and a nice 6.52# Big bass for a kicker fish!
Steve fished around main lake creek channels and ditches with a Black & Blue jig around flooded grass. Steve caught a nice 6.52# bass in 1' of water at 7:30 am on the jig with 17# Berkley line spooled on an Quantum Energy PT mounted on a Team Daiwa rod. Steve commented his favorite pro is Skeet Reese. Congratulations!
Another big bass of the day caught by myself (Matt Holder) 5.57# around the trees at 10:30 am with a Mag wiggle wart in 12' of water partner, Mike Lowe made a couple of attempts to net the nice fish.
The rain held off till weigh in was complete and the front provided an overcast day for the most part.
